Unity amid diversity is at the heart of who we are as Christians and is the reason why the Church Jesus founded is catholic in fact as well as in name. Our diversity is ethnic—we are the only major Church worldwide with a non-white majority! Fully 2/3 of all Catholics live in Asia, Africa and Latin America, but our diversity is not just ethnic. We also include people of all temperaments and many spiritualities. We are home to traditionalists nostalgic for a time before they were even born, as well as to progressives who long for changes they will probably never live to see, people of all ages with every kind of brokenness and giftedness imaginable and dreams of every sort. Every one of you has something distinctive to contribute to this astonishingly beautiful mosaic founded by Jesus to nurture our faith and bring his salvation to the entire world.

Yesterday’s sinner becomes tomorrow’s saint! I’ll bet some of you can relate to that!
